A STEM mentoring program for girls

The Program

The BrainSTEM GAMES
is a 12-week #GirlsInSTEM Mentoring Program.

Funded by the Australian Government Maker Community Grants Program, the program is being run in partnership with the Australian Computer Society.

Offered to Year 9-10 students (and teachers), the BrainSTEM Games are designed to:
  • encourage practical skills, creativity and entrepreneurial thinking in high-school students, through the delivery of hands-on STEM-related events and activities.
  • use gamification and mentoring to inspire students to pursue STEM disciplines in their study and work.
  • make a positive and ongoing impact on girls under 18 years of age, particularly those from  historically under-represented groups.


Who Can Participate?
  • Year 9/10 female students in QLD/NSW/VIC.
  • Each school can enter ONE team (4-5 girls) who will be matched with a female-mentor.

Program Details

Kickstarter Day
  • Students & accompanying teachers to attend Kickstarter Day (in the 3rd week of March'24) in your respective capital city.
  • 0900 - 1230 hrs
  • Receive program briefing, meet your matched industry mentor, attend a workshop on Design Thinking
Mentoring Sessions
  • Attend 6-8 mentoring sessions between March - June 2024
  • Sessions will be a mix of online / in-person (school visits & mentor site visits)
  • Following the program structure, student teams will learn and apply skills in research, problem solving, critical thinking and brainstorming.
  • Completing a series of tasks and challenges, teams will earn points and follow their progress on the leader board.
Presentation
  • Attend a presentation & storytelling workshop (online) in 2nd week of June'24
  • Deliver final project presentation (in-person) during 3rd week of June'24
  • Top 3 teams from each state qualify for the national finals
  • Qualifying teams present in the national finals (online) in the 4th week of June'24.
